All the music on this website is copyrighted by the contributing artists. They have agreed to make their work freely available here under the terms of the Creative Commons Sampling Plus License. Alternatively, individual artists may specify a less restrictive Creative Commons license under which their particular track is released.
By downloading any music from this website you are agreeing to use it under the terms of the Creative Commons Sampling Plus license, or under the terms of another Creative Commons license which might be specified for any particular track.
What is Creative Commons?
Creative Commons is a non-profit organisation offering flexible alternatives to copyright for creative work.
We have chosen to publish music under the Creative Commons Sampling Plus license for the following reasons:
- It preserves the contributors right to be identified as the author of the original work.
- It encourages sharing and sampling of the work - spreading the work further and enhancing the tools and resources available for other digital artists.
- It protects the work from being used to advertise other products.
- It protects against commercial performance of the tracks (for example, commercial radio stations) where somebody might make a profit from the track without sharing this with the original author.
- It ensures that all works derived from these tracks are released under the same conditions - encouraging wider adoption of Creative Commons licensing arrangements.
However, wherever possible, we would encourage artists to specify an even less restrictive license under which to release their work on this website. Particularly, we would encourage use of the Creative Commons Attribution (2.5) license. This allows full and unrestricted use of the work (for commercial or non-commercial purposes), providing that any use or re-use of the work carries with it the same freedoms. We feel that, as with the GNU General Public License for software, this kind of license will help to lever more commercial work into the public domain. We feel this process helps to enrich our digital culture as well as encourage highly inclusive commercial and knowledge economies.
